Mobile 3D Real-time Measurement System
In industrial development and production environments portable Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) are often required to measure single points as well as multiple points simultaneously.
AICON recently released TraceCam, a innovative three dimensional measuring and positioning system, whose various modules make it ideal for a broad range of applications.
Working Principle
The systems´ core, a mobile optical measuring head, consists of four high resolution cameras rigidly mounted onto a carbon fiber base.
Points are measured on the part by recording simultaneous digital images at each of the cameras. Reference and measurement points are targeted and measured either directly, or indirectly with a handheld probe. Three dimensional coordinates are computed in real-time. In tracking mode, points can be measured continuously at a rate of 5 Hz.
Mobile Use
To ensure portability, the TraceCam measuring head, controls, uninterruptible power supply and accessories can be integrated into a mobile cart.
TraceCam can therefore quickly be moved to a location and is ready for immediate use. No time consuming system set-up or compensation is required.
Each camera on the TraceCam portable Coordinate Measuring Machine is equipped with an infrared ring flash to illuminate targets and so reliable measurements are easily achieved even under difficult lighting conditions. As reference points and location points are measured at the same time, movements of the system are compensated automatically.
Measurement Probe
Points on the object are measured manually with a carbon fiber touch-probe. A variety of probe tips allow for easy measurement of even difficult to reach points. TraceCam automatically identifies a probe tip by means of the coded targets on the probe panel, and then makes adjustment for that particular tip.
Measuring Accuracy
TraceCam´s measurement accuracy is dependent on the distance to the object and may be expressed as 0.05 mm + 0.07 mm/m distance ( for example, at a distance of 2 m the system achieves an accuracy of +/- 0.19 mm). The maximum measuring distance from the sensor is 5 m.
Dummy Positioning Application
In the automotive industry before commencing a crash test the dummy has to be positioned correctly on the car seat. AICON´s TraceCam system, in combination with the DuPos software module, provides the perfect tool for monitoring and adjusting the dummy's three dimensional position in the car. TraceCam significantly reduces the time needed for this exacting operation.
Real-time Deformation Analysis Application
Tests often require the continuous determination and logging of the deflection and/or expansion of an object.
TraceCam is able to make measurements at the rate of up to five per second and to provide the measured coordinates for immediate analysis. The deformations can be displayed graphically in the DEFORM software module. TraceCam may be installed permanently on site with a customized camera configuration (for example, in a wind-test tunnel)
